Laptop advice

I want to buy a new laptop, small to medium sized, preferably no more than £800.

I want one that's small and light enough to cart around with me, but not one of those pricey, really tiny ones that break easily and don't have any disc drives or anything.

Any tips re: brands and retailers? I'm not too fussy. Toshibas always seem to be pretty cheap for what you get - are they alright?

We only use IBM at work - they seem pretty good compared with the other makes I occaisonally come into contact with. I think Toshiba's are OK, but this is based on not much knowledge whatsoever. However (and this is a bit sad) I've got a recent copy of "What Laptop" which I'll be happy to lend you...

i dunno - not much ram, no wireless it's a celeron chip, not a centrino. definitely better deals out there (possibly from dell).
