LRB World Cup Blog

John Lanchester's World Cup blog for the London Review of Books. Not quite the Ally McCoist/Ian Wright level of punditry. It's obviously a lot better than that, but I think there is a danger in trying to get too intellectual about football...

Very good. Lots of cheering round our way during England's win over Trinidad & Tobago which confused me somewhat - I was out in the garden and initially assumed that T&T had scored. I think the world must be moving on...

I remember John Lanchester wrote a great World Cup diary for the LRB in 2002, so having a blog is a natural progression. There's also a good piece by him in this week's LRB on Wall Mart.

Glad to hear it John. Although sadly not all our countrymen share that attitude. By the way, where exactly do you live these days?

yeah, saw that. i think in general the whole supporting whoever's playing England thing is getting a bit passe these days.

We've settled in south Edinburgh (Prestonfield) - got a 1930s bungalow. Currently having a nervous breakdown trying to choose an appropriate fireplace for the living room.
