Mu Mu!

One for you John? Bill Drummond on the death (he hopes) of recorded music from Radio 3's 'Free Thinking Festival'. I heard this on the weekly Radio 3 Arts and Ideas podcast, which often has interesting stuff on it, despite the annoying presence of Philip Dodd.

I increasingly find I don't care one way or the other what happens to recorded music - despite devoting about 15 years of my life to being absolutely obsessed with it. What a waste of time - I could have been doing something useful instead.

Well, I don't know what else you would have been doing that could have been significantly more useful! After half a lifetime now, I still can't really claim to have discovered how to usefully make employ myself. But you're right - I really won't shed a tear for the end of the music industry. Couldn't give a fig for the record companies obviously and if all singers and bands now have to make a fraction of what they used to earn doing gigs, then so be it - don't have a problem either. Apart from a couple of indie record shops going to the wall (which I admit, I haven't been to for 15 years), then not a great loss really.

Good riddance I say, it’s all noise nowadays anyway. Now when I was a young lady Frank Sinatra was the gentleman that we all listened to. Every time you listened to ol’ blue eye’s was an occasion. Nobody downloads him; it’s a sign of respect.

Edna's entries evidently emanate from London...

I predict that Edna's next contribution emanates from Glasgow...
