Yes, quite the music but not crazy about the chat. Would have probably hailed it as the gospel twelve years ago, but now it just seems like a sub-Vonnegut rant about the inanity of the human condition. It's all true of course.
Monkeys lack the dignity of apes, so I think the guy was using poetic license to some degree.
Good point though. I'm ashamed to say I can't remember the difference between apes and monkeys. A bifurcation in the ancestral tree NNNNNN years ago of course but in what manner?
Apes don't have tails. Doesn't answer your question, but still. I once read that there should really only be a few hundred thousand human beings, based on other ape populations - but by some weird quirk there ended up being billions of us.

yeah AND there's a bit about them being cursed with consciousness. i reckon most animals with reasonably large brains and nervous systems are conscious.
