*Bit* of a good track, was on Radio 2 earlier this evening. Never heard of James McMurtry before, initially thought it might have been Lou Reed singing.
Yeah, this is good - I hadn't heard of this guy either. But it does bug me that most of the US opposition to Iraq (appart from the fact that it only emerged about 4 years too late) is based on the plight of US soldiers serving there. The political opposition, the books, the movies - the songs. It's terrible that all these young guys are being sent over to die or get maimed. But what about the hundreds of Iraqis getting killed every day?
Yes, it's all very reminiscent of the Vietnam war, which was played out in popular culture and art/entertainment as an American tragedy, when in fact 99% of the casulaties and suffering was of course experienced by the people of Vietnam.
