Doomsday Clock

5 minutes to midnight. There's a great line in the Metafilter thread about this link:

As an Iron Maiden fan, I'm looking forward to when it's two minutes to midnight.

At which point, it will be time to Run to the Hills, presumably...

By the way, have the clock settings gone wonky, or have you become an insomniac?

Or are you in America?

Still in the US - flying back this evening (Pacific Time). I think my clock's going to be pretty wonky when I get back...

I'd forgotten all about the Doomsday Clock. It's so 1980s! Although global warming doesn't quite bring on the kind of ghastly fear that nuclear oblivion had.

Btw, as soon as I saw this item in the news, I knew that it would turn up on Fitzrovian Tuesday (indeed, I was about to post it myself). What does that say about us? A generation characterized by peace, prosperity and excessive fearfulness.

True enough - though my original post was more to do with the line about Iron Maiden rather than the news item itself. "Two! Minutes! - To MidNiiiiiiight...."
