Watchful Eyes

How long has that strapline been there then? I've only just noticed it. And was the original poster genuine or a spoof?

By the way, have you noticed our adwords are for 'disaster recovery' services. Would have to be good to put right the disasters we're moaning on about.

The posters were genuine - I remember seeing them up on the bus shelters at the Tottenham Court Road / Euston Road junction, maybe around spring 2002.

I've refreshed the strapline (the Watchful Eyes one had been up from around the time of Tom's post).

How long have you been doing that? I thought it still said 'notes from things discussed at Fitzroy Tavern' or somesuch.

We're on strapline no.3

Btw with regard to blog ephemera I received an actual letter in the post from google about cashing in our adsense revenues. Not looked into how to do it yet though (or how much moolah there is to be extracted from this venture).

The Watchful Eyes strapline was put up by Seumas, I think, around the time of my post. I like the new one - but what does it refer to?

The posters were genuine - if you look back on the Fitz, I think you'll find quite a sophisticated discussion on the semiotics of terror in a post-ironic world.

A letter from Google! Very excited to see how much we've earned. I've been clicking on our adwords for ages, in the hope of earning enough to buy John a train ticket back to London and a booze-up in the Fitzroy.

I have now earned £50 from doing YouGov surveys, and am awaiting my cheque. I only signed up in an attempt to subvert their right-wing bias, but they've curiously stopped inviting me to take part in the political ones and I only get tedious market research surveys.

$92 - I think we've stalled. I'm not coming down to London unless there's enough for a return fare...

actually, why don't we plough the money back into the blog? we could purchase fitzroviantuesdays.com and maybe rent some server space...

Why don't we spend it re-establishing the John webcam? Then you wouldn't have to come down to London - we could all teleconference.

What would be the advantage of hosting it ourselves rather than using blogger?

I say: let's invest in ourselves rather than the website - blogger seems to work fine. Provided we keep clicking on the adwords, this time next year we should have enough to offer John a (super saver) return ticket, drinks at the Fitz and a bed/sofa for the night.

If you're getting the train up to Scotland the East coast is much more scenic (and GNER have a better reputation than Virgin).

Go to www.moneysavingexpert.com for top tightwad tips. He reckons you can book, say, from Kings Cross to Doncaster. Then book another ticket from Doncaster to Inverness, or wherever, but on the same train. So you have two tickets, but you don't have to get off the train. Mind you, I tried it once and it was such a hassle that I gave up and shelled out the full whack. But if you choose the right time you can apparently play the system to your advantage.
