Yes, I saw this. Methane, the worst Greenhouse gas of them all. Absolutely appalling: exactly the kind of positive feedback/tipping point that could do for us all. And no amount of wind turbines on Notting Hill houses are going to save us.

The New Scientist was on the case a year ago. Sometimes I think 'just bring it on, we deserve it, get it over with'.

On a brighter (well, not really) note, JG Ballard's new novel looks promising...

Though apparently Methane only hangs around for 10 years before degrading into less yobbish molecules.

As I mentioned before I find reading the Real Climate website quite soothing - they all seem to know what they're talking about and aren't freaking out (quite) much as certain humanities graduates...

I often find myself echoing Colin's sentiments. In a way, I'm partly looking forward to ecological catastrope, if only to bring a deservedly violent end to Western capitalism and consumer culture. It's just a shame that everyone else (in fact, particularly everyone else) will have to suffer as well.

ummm - i don't think i'm looking forward to an ecological catastrophe. not that much of an upside to them as far as i can see...

But think of the post-apocalyptic biker gangs, John. That's got to count for something...
